Also looking for old parts

Postby Docjon » Mon Feb 29, 2016 1:00 am

Looking for Core2 processors for this motherboard:

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... id=2729#ov

I have a Core2 Duo 4500 that runs at 2.20, but I need better for my purposes: Core2 Duo E6750 at 2.66, at minimum.

I need an IDE HD as well, probably 75 gigs will get the job done. Can also use SATA, but I figure most folks have a use for those.

Anyone have any of this gathering dust and want to sell it cheap, or or can point me to where I can get such parts cheap, I'd appreciate it.

I know it's not as sexy as Paladin's build, but it's one I would love to have nonetheless.

I want this computer so I can put it someplace where it will be easier to practice my guitar and use it for Rocksmith and Youtube instructional videos.

I have everything I need for it already(even an old CRT I keep for backup), except I need a better CPU, and I need a hard drive. Well, I kinda need a case too, but I've seen where ppl use things like plastic milk crates for ghetto rigs.

Used and refurbs are OK for this rig, as it's going to doing very little but Rocksmith. A failure won't be tragic.

I can probably find my own HD, as that's not rocket science. I was just asking you guys in case you know of good places to buy used/refurbs on the cheap, or if you had an old IDE laying around that isn't much use these days.

The CPU is a different story. I know I need a LGA 775 chip, and I know it has to be a Core2 Duo E6750 at 2.66 or better, but that's it. Some are 65nm, and my mobo is "45nm optimized". I'm pretty sure it can handle the 65nm chips as well, but not 100%. Some of the Core2's are Duos, some are Quads. Would I be better off getting a Quad, at say 2.4, or a Duo at 3.0? Some chip names start with an E, like the previously listed minimum spec chip, some start with the letter G, and I don't know the significance of this.

I could really use a little input on the CPU situation.

I told you I have a laptop I am going to send to you. The problem is the OS. I need to put another HD in it and put an OS on it. If you had an OS for it I can send it right away.
I cannot get copies of Windows, I have to buy them like anyone else.

Otherwise I need to sit and get all my files off it it and clean it up etc... That will take time and that is time that I never feel like doing it. i :) i

Cool! I'm sure I can get a copy of windows 7 on the cheap somewhere. I've been looking around a bit already. . .

Do you know the gfx capability on the laptop? Rocksmith isn't demanding in that respect.

Min specs:
Graphics:256 MB DirectX 9 / NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600 GT or ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 X

I assume the laptop meets or exceeds the min CPU requirements I listed above. . .

A laptop that works with Rocksmith would be GREAT for that purpose, and if I have to go into the hospital again, would make a better way to keep in touch than my Kindle Fire. I was going to use Rich's little gadget for that. . .it seems great for surfing, but hey, nice laptop. . .

Thinking I have another operation in my near future. My December surgery healed up pretty well, I think, but the October one never did, and I'm hurting a bit and bleeding more from that area. I have a follow-up on the 22nd, but I'm gonna call and try to move up my appt with my surgeon.

I would have no idea what graphics card is in it but I HIGHLY doubt it is equal to that in an older laptop. It may or may not be able to do Rocksmith.

Well, the laptop sounds cool and all, but then I still have to proceed with the premise of this thread. I may have to head over to REDDIT and ask for help there. There's like three subreddits this question would be appropriate for.

I just don't know. Those specs are not very high so the more I think about it, it may run RS depending on the settings. I can get you and HD, no problem there. Shipping the stuff is what costs so much. i :) i

Looks like I'll pick up one of THESE. Gonna do some checking to make sure that CPU will work with my motherboard, but I guess it will.

The min spec CPU for Rocksmith 2014 (Core2 Duo E6750) scores 1,727 on Passmark.

The CPU I'm looking to buy for my Rocksmith machine (Core2 Quad Q8400) scores 3,228 on Passmark.

My current gaming machine CPU (i5-2500k) scores 6,456 on Passmark.

The new CPU ought to be more than powerful enough. My old video card exceeds the min specs by a fair bit, and when I upgrade my gaming computer around Black Friday, I'll use my current GPU in the Rocksmith machine. I have more than enough RAM. Now all I need is a HD and a Win7 key. Used HD's can be had on the cheap. I'm betting Win7 keys can be as well at this point.

The only real pisser is that I'll have to use my old monitor, which is a CRT at 1024 x 768. I checked at the /r/Rocksmith forum at REDDIT, and it will work, but I'll probably miss that wide-screen fun. Still, maybe I'll get another monitor on the cheap eventually.

You should see if you have a FreeGeek or similar store near you. That's where I got the game server for $140 ready to roll.
