2 kinds of mods per weapon? So each weapon only has 2 options? Out of how many choices? Can you give me a bit more of a hint of what to do or what that is about? You don't have to get extremely detailed, just what I should do to minimize angst.

I seem to have developed that and I think it is my new life's motto.

So I assume there are specific spots where you can increase these? So choose health then the next time ammo, back and forth?
I can do that.

Yes I know I should play and decide myself but I am so frustrated these days, anything to minimize it would be good for me.

Honestly who knows when I will ever get around to playing this anyway.

Each weapon has a mod, or alt-fire option you can equip. The shotgun, for example, has an explosive shell it can lob, or it can shoot three shots at once. You pick what mod you want to upgrade to, and if you pick both, you can choose one mod, or switch to the other. It's a very, very simple progression skill tree, essentially. Lets you have some variety and increase your power as difficulty ramps up.

Yeah, I'd recommend health, then ammo, then health, etc. You can also upgrade armor, but health is more common and easier to max, so I'd wait awhile to upgrade that.

Took me awhile to get to this too. Wasn't in the right mood for it. I will say though, that if you play it for an hour or two, it will likely put you in the mood.

Great game, but I got to level 11 and encountered the Hell knights. Rediculously hard and bullet sponges. Then the next level was rediculously hard again. I decided to cheat, and after an hour of googling, got the god mode to work. It IS NOT as simple as typing in the code every site lists. Have to enable developer mode, then you enter a different code. Dunno what version of Doom 2016 everyone else was playing, but this version didn't like the commonly-repeated god mode code.

Then once you've entered developer mode, you can't load that game without being in developer mode. Game save errored out as bad, then on a whim I entered developer mode and THEN loaded it, and it worked then. Finally, after that, I had some trouble getting god mode to work again. I was gonna push through in god mode just to see the story and levels and finish it, but it got to be a PITA, so I uninstalled it.

No regrets. Fun while it lasted. Can't complain that it turned into what it did at the end, because I expected the whole game to be that way, which is why I waited so long to buy it. Great game. Just game-design excellence through-and-through - well, with the possible exception of the elevated difficulty in the last 2-3 levels, but that's an arguably valid design choice. I didn't care as much for the Hell levels as the Mars levels, though

What difficulty level were you playing on? The Hell Knights go down easily with a Chainsaw. The fuel for it is pretty rare, which is why I save the chainsaw ONLY for Hell Knights.

In the higher levels when you're in a big room with 20 demons you've got bunny-hop around like mad, keep on the move. They'll mostly just keep missing you if you never stop moving.

I had to look up strategies for the Pinky demons - they kicked my ass relentlessly until I learned their glaring weakness.

I've been meaning to go back and play the classic levels, but you can't save inside of them. Unfortunately I don't have the kind of time to waste starting a level over and over for every mistake I make. The game does support mods however - it's probably a safer bet researching and trying the best ones.

Sorry, Hell GUARDS. The slug-things with exoskeletons. Not enough chainsaw fuel to deal with the three that pop up at once at the end of the one level. I cheated past it, then saw a shit-ton of other nasties starting the next level, Barons, etc, so I fucked off. Was getting to be less fun and an annoying grind.

Ah. You are talking about a boss fight. I’ve got mixed feelings about those.

It took me several times to beat the Hell Guards. It’s always trial & error for me when it comes to defeating bosses. Often boss fight = quitting time for me - I give it a few tries the save it for another time when I’m feeling more ambitious.

On one hand variety is good. On the other hand it’s like running into a brick wall as far as the pace of game. You’re right - it’s usually a grind of trial & error. After enough practice & learning the boss’s patterns & weaknesses you finally win. In a game like DOOM there is no legendary loot drop though. Your reward is simply to advance to the next level of the game, which can feel anticlimactic in a modern game.

Yeah. You'll quit about the same time I did, if not sooner. Honestly, at easy level, it's just fine until the end of level 11. There are 13 levels. I made it until the beginning of level 12. Fresh off the aggravation at the end of level 11, I gave it up when I saw a shit-ton of really nasty baddies to start 12. I probably could have powered through until the next "boss fight", but the writing was on the wall: they were ratcheting up the difficulty, and I was done with it. Still a wonderfully done old-school shooter that oozes master-class programming and design, but it is, at it's core, an old-school shooter. It was gonna kick my ass at some point :)

I just finished DOOM. It was worth full price that I paid for it when it came out. I had to youtube strategies a few times though. There was a shitton of jumping up and squeezing into secret holes, but once you powered up your suit and guns the boss fights actually got easier. I really liked the chainsaw and was always looking for gas. There is a point in level 8 or 9 a rune gives you infinite ammo if you keep your health maxed out. I just used the missile launcher with a lock on every swarm. Kind of like Serious Sam.

I don't think I've ever quit a game when its 'boss' time. Didn't care if it took a week, I was going to kill that muther and get my reward ;p

The best part was getting double jump back around level 3'ish, plus the classic levels, and you can revisit each level to look for secrets and powerups. It's definitely my style although I'm really slow anymore ;p

Cool Lexx. Glad you found a nice distraction. Nice to be in a different world at times, forgetting about the IRL problems. i :) i

I want to play it but am unsure I have the patience.

Cool, Lexx! Didn't know you are playing it. Prophet said a lot of great things about it, and he was right. I didn't have your dedication and determination to finish it, but I well-enjoyed the time I did put in.

I really can't say enough about Doom 2016. So well done. It's weird, it's like slipping into your favorite pants, shirt, and jacket. It's just RIGHT. The game play and gfx were smooth in a way I've seldom experienced. The levels were cool. The story was more than enough to intrigue me (even though I have never cared for the the 'Hell on Mars' storyline). I loved progressing through the levels and finding new things, discovering what's around the next bend. Finding bodies with logs on them, seeing and reading about what happened before you got there. . .

If you're thinking about it Paladin, wait for a good sale and play it on easy mode for as long as you enjoy it, knowing you'll likely quit before the end. At sale price, it's well worth it.

Makes me long for a great Unreal game in that new engine they've been pimping the past few years. Not Unreal TOURNAMENT, but UNREAL. Really wish they'd make that game. Even if they directly copied the level design and simply made an updated copy of the original, that would be something I'd play. I would think attempting a port of the old game would save them a lot of time and money and effort over a modern UNREAL -themed game with new levels, new plot, some new monsters and new objects and new scenery etc. A lot of creative time and effort reduced.

Hearing you talk about it makes me want to replay it. I did recently try it out again to see what it looked like with the recent game updates and my new monitor/video card (purchased after I beat the game). It does look so amazing in 2K.

I figure I might enjoy the game better now that I actually know what I'm doing. Like you touched upon, there are some tricks & tactics you need to learn to maximize the experience. I suffered quite a bit until I learned how to take out Pinky Demons properly.

It was refreshing to play a game that paid homage to our favorite old FPS games wasn't it? They did such a good job melding old school with the visual & leveling fluff that people expect out of modern games.
