Gonna play some more now. I left off last night in that big indoor area where the facility is overheating, and there's molten metal at the bottom. Huge level, so glad there are a couple checkpoints!
I'll check out the Vulcan driver thing. I've got v-sync on, so I won't get more than 60fps, but I don't recall ever seeing it drop more than a couple FPS below that. Of course, when the SHTF, I'm too busy to look at the FPS.

I hate those friggin' spawn-nests!
Speaking of FPS, I'm liking the power of the new machine. It's given me a nice FPS bump in some of my favorite games, like Fallout 4, Planetside 2, etc. Not a ton, but even 10-15 fps with slightly higher gfx settings is nice when you're already running 35-45 fps. Gonna keep an eye out for gfx card deals in the next 6 months or so. Looked at a 780ti today for ~$200 shipped. Would have been a decent FPS bump now, but decided it was another 2-year solution at best, and it was old and power-hungry. Gonna hold out and see what happens with newer cards and pricing. I'd LOVE to get something in the 1070ti power-range, but figure 1070 is the likely affordable target. We'll see.
Back to DOOM: That damn hell knight is a bitch!
In what order did you augment the armor suit? I did Health, Heath, because that seems to be a plentiful boost that I can fill frequently. Armor seems less so, harder to come by, and so, harder to max out. Thinking I'll go with an Ammo augment next, as that would be helpful in some bigger battles, particularly with the mini-rockets and three-shot shotgun burst. That'll give me more chainsaw fuel as well, and I can get more ammo from that. Win-win.
The security demons with the shield, I use the shotgun grenades and hit beside/behind them. They're good, though, and they'll angle the shield if they see you aiming off to their side. GAH! Gotta figure out those weapon boosts a little better. I thought that if I bought one, the other went away, but I think I can switch them out as needed. 3-shot-burst/grenade on the shotgun, etc.
REALLY well-done game, as Prophet was saying in this thread. Knew I'd play it eventually after he started talking about it. I wish Epic would bring back some old-school gaming with their Unreal game. Just redo the 15-20 year old games in that awesome new engine they have, with just a tweak or two to update it for modern tastes. I might be tempted to pre-order that, if they had a discount for doing so.
Most older games would need more work because of the advances in gaming since then, but I think Doom shows there are a few that will translate well with little change to the basic gameplay. Unreal would be one. Half-life, in the new Unreal engine, would be another. Damn, that would be awesome.
