Or we can stop pointing out that we are acting like children and pointing out how we are always arguing when we really were NOT arguing.
i made some comments to Prophet, I doubt he was mad or upset in anyway, he is a big boy.

Nothing said in that response warranted a response pointing anything out.

I also was being very cool about my post, AGAIN I used smileys.
I fucking had a fucking disclaimer in my fucking SIG explaining how smileys are meant to mean busting balls and I STILL FUCKING get this fucking BS of how Paladin is being a dick when he was NOT!!!!!!!
This is fucking EPIC now. Historic! I cannot fucking get this point across no matter how hard I try.... and I TRY!!!!

There are 5 of us, this is not a newbie not understanding something, I think by now we all should know the rule!!!!

I was NOT arguing but it was nice to come back and see comments on how I was.

I am sick of commenting here only to have what I type be used as an example of how shitty we are when that was not my intention to begin with.

Lets start over...

Ok. You've made your point about smilies. Now I'm going to make one.

Smiley's have virtually no impact on how someone else is going to interpret your comments. They are cute & that's about it. They are basically useless in serious discussions, and often in casual conversations as well. When it comes to reading, people are always going to interpret your thoughts based on your words and nothing else outside of punctuation and screaming caps.

So I wouldn't be surprised when people ignore the smilies are respond with rebuttals & counterpoints of their own, especially when it's something they feel strongly about. A smily face often implies, "I would like for you to NOT be pissed off..." but people are going to feel how they feel regardless.

To be clear, I'm not instructing you to not use smilies. It's a free country. I'm a smily whore myself, especially on Twitter where it saves me precious space. I'm just explaining why people may not be reacting the way you're expecting them to. It's just human nature.

That's really the only thing I had to get off my chest. If I didn't give a $#!^ I wouldn't have said anything at all. I like you Paladin. You're a cool, funny dude. I have fun gaming and joking with you once we actually do manage to find ourselves in the same game on the same team blowing up bad guys. I'm not sure how we manage to get distracted from what should be the core activity of our "gaming club", but we do. With less members around to distract us from ourselves, our forums aren't as fun as they used to be. I miss the days when we used to post battle strategies, organize gaming events, and discuss new content, DLCs and game patches that we were excited about. I blame real life and father time. It's decimated [CgC], as it does every single other gaming group over time. We're not immune to time or the challenges that real life poses to our members. I'll be honest, I'm not exactly sure where to go from here.

Ahhh but I haven't made my point and your response proved that.

We are friends and we joke with each other. A smiley tells the reader to read what they read as it was intended, with humor, busting balls or just dry humor.

If I say Fuck off Larva, you read that as serious.

If I say Fuck off Larva i :) i
You read that as a busting balls, they DO matter and if they are ignored then why ever use them at all? What good are they then?

They were used specifically for that reason using just ascii text and now lame Emojii's.

So no you are wrong. They serve a purpose. You guys just ignore them then.

Dry humor especially, like I have, can not be typed to indicate humor without them. Otherwise the humor is lost.
If I have to type it in ways to indicate the humor IN the message then the dry humor is lost.

So fuck off. Dick. i :) i

BTW this group is the only group that I have this issue with. All the other forums I am in get it.

People will always decide for themselves how to feel about what you say, write or do, smilies or not, regardless of your intentions. That's the way people are. It really is that simple. If you want to believe it works otherwise, don't be surprised if you continue to be frequently misunderstood.

Paladin wrote:Ahhh but I haven't made my point and your response proved that.

If that's how you feel then you simply don't understand my point. Saying I proved your point makes zero sense. This "smily" discussion is going in circles. There's no benefit to continuing it.

I can just tell you I don't find the forums much fun anymore. Forums are a lot more fun and energetic with more people in them, but I don't foresee an increase in traffic in our future.

There are some things I'd like to do with the [CgC] site. I'd like to finish up the member videos I've collected footage for over the years and post links to them on the site. I do see a value in making monuments to our glory days, not just for [CgC], but =DC=, -=NC=-, & =VF=. It'd be nice to keep the lights on so members (former & current) have a place to meet, reminisce & stay in touch.

I said I HAVEN''T made my point. I said your response was proof you did not understand my point. See you guys can't read. i :) i

HEY look a smiley... I wonder what that means.. maybe the text I wrote there meant i said that tongue and cheek. Maybe that meant HEY GUYS I was just kidding here.... Damn what a concept.....

Now how else could I write that? Seriously tell me??? If I want to make a joke and just kid around, how else should I have wrote that???? No writing something that sounds a bit serious then adding a smile means exactly what it means.....

You guys know better and you know I am right here.

If friends I have know for YEARS consistently mis-interpret what I say when they should know better then I got nothing else to add!!

I am done.. i :) i

I'll attempt to derive from your effort at a detailed explanation what you're trying to say: despite the harsh appearance of your remarks you're generally NOT trying to insult or hate on your friends?

I get that. And can dig that. You are differently a different kind of dude... not saying any of the rest of us aren't of course.

I like everybody here, warts, crabs, and all (except for Lurch :P ). It's not the easiest bunch to get along with all the time, because we're a stubborn, mature (age-wise only), opinionated group. I guess it's good to get some angst out every once in a while, as opposed to letting small things build up and fester.

Hardware RAID requires what exactly??? WTF are you talking about?

A RAID card or built in RAID in your BIOS does not require anything special at all. The hardware does all the work completely separate from the OS.I don't run anything special on my desktops at work, all my workstations use RAID1 and run normal, standard windows Pro or Enterprise with no extra anything. They do have Intel monitoring software installed and I can rebuild from there etc.... but that is not required. I can do everything from the BIOS manager if need be.

ZFS...Go away... you are thinking of Linux again.. We are discussing Windows here NOT Linux. Z-Raid is not on the table.
Seriously stop bringing up Linux information in a Windows discussion. No one here uses Linux except you, it does not apply dude...Not being mean but lets stick to discussing what Doc, Lexx, Lurch and Larva will actually be using. Mentioning ZFS is useless. I don't hate Linux overall, I tinker with it, but don't use it as much as you since we don't support it at work. Windows and MAC OS only. I am the Windows guy. i :) i
I have no need for Linux at home so don't use it much.

I would LOVE to use ZFS and if it was ever able to be ran on Windows that would be an awesome day. But it won't....
Soooooo lets move on... Mmmmm kay... i :) i

I still don't recommend RAID for home use but it is not difficult to use a RAID card. I was never a fan of striping.. It was useful back in the day when drives were small to give you larger storage volumes but it is really not needed now days.

Now if you want to discuss reliability then lets discuss why we all really should be using ECC memory. I intend to use that when I build a new system.

The hardware requirements of full RAID support are the very reasons BSD and Linux support ZFS and BTRFS now. It removes the problems that can cause full data corruption that can happen with non NAS/Enterprise drives. Basically, there are extra instructions between the controller and the drive. These are used when bad sectors are found and fixed. The oversimplified version is that in some cases you can have a drive doing data repair, then another drive has an issue at the same time and attempts a repair. The result, array corruption and possibly total failure. These same issues affect all systems, regardless of OS. So, on a Windows machine running consumer grade drives in a RAID will have the same effect if using hardware solutions. Even enterprise RAID cards from LSI and others. So, I discourage the use of RAID if all you are looking to do is expand the storage of a single volume. Better to run two drives and use Windows Storage spaces to merge them into a single volume, but no RAID. Then rely on a good backup routine.

The only point of a striped RAID is more speed. But in the world of the SSD, it does almost zero for real-world performance unless you are using it for something like video editing as a scratch drive or working drive to make scrubbing faster/smoother. Gaming and other program access see no gain because the small file (4k & 512k) read and writes really do not change. Only sequential. And that only makes moving/reading large single files faster.

As for running Windows with ZFS, it can be done. If you use VM host OS that supports it. :D
