$170 for R5-1600 and an Asrock motherboard. I paid more than that for either my CPU or my motherboard. Just a really cheap way to modernize, and the AMD motherboard leaves you an upgrade path for the future - it supports CPUs that haven't even been released yet.


Solid computer on the cheap, if the motherboard does what you need it to do. Gotta add memory of course. . .

Not a bad deal at all.

I've been waiting for the right price of a R7 combo. If I was to start over again, it'd have to blow past a R5. Plus add another $150 for ram.

If you're in the market, I'll keep an eye on the 1700/2700 series for you. I've seen deals, didn't post 'em. Don't think they offer the value/performance of the 1600(x) deals now, but then, I bought a 1700x myself

This build was meant to last me 7 years+, and I think threads/cores will gain value in the coming years. The 8-core 1700/2700 series may gain an end-of-life boost in performance over the 6-core 1600/2600 series - if my belief comes true. If not, it's extra processing power for bullshit background tasks. Either way, I like it.

I would not worry too much about upgrading in the first place but there will be more sales coming up. It is that time of year.

Yeah, if I see them in time. This would have been a good deal for a hundred dollars more, that's how good of a deal it was. It was an insta-buy if you needed one. Could have flipped it for an easy profit, if you didn't need it.

Glad I didn't see it, I'm holding off buying for now.

Hell, you aren't using your gaming rig much anyway. Worked out better for you. Now you get a year newer computer and you missed out on absolutely NOTHING. Sacrificed almost nothing. My computer was all flakey and acting up, unreliable and parts were failing with pneumatic regularity. Plus, I wanted to get it built while I could, while the money was there and hadn't found another use. Given the events of the past five months, I made the right call if I wanted a usable computer going forward.
