Nvidia looking to screw everyone

TL:DR Geforce Partner Program looks to force AMD out of the video card market by forcing board partners and OEM to not do business with them. Failure to do so removes them from allotments of GPU's, rebate programs, early access to hardware, launch partnerships, game bundling, and other things needed to be relevant and successful selling cards.

If true, they are pulling the same move Intel tried and got fined $1 billion for. It is illegal.

This is really annoying seeing how they make the far superior card, at least for high end, and generally what I use. The tech industry is such a shitshow right now. But, I guess it's not much different from the rest of the world right now.

Don't have any links handy at the moment, but I've been reading where MSI and others are removing their "Gaming" brand GPU's from their website. Looks to be related to the fuss over the Geforce Partner's Program, which says that only parts from Nvidia can go into "Gaming" line GPUs.

The crux of the issue with NVIDIA GPP comes down to a single requirement in order to be part of GPP. In order to have access to the GPP program, its partners must have its "Gaming Brand Aligned Exclusively With GeForce." I have read documents with this requirement spelled out on it.

What would it mean to have your "Gaming Brand Aligned Exclusively With GeForce?" The example that will likely resonate best with HardOCP readers is the ASUS Republic of Gamers brand. I have no knowledge if ASUS is a GPP partner, I am simply using the ROG brand hypothetically. If ASUS is an NVIDIA GPP partner, and it wants to continue to use NVIDIA GPUs in its ROG branded video cards, computers, and laptops, it can no longer sell any other company's GPUs in ROG products. So if ASUS want to keep building NVIDIA-based ROG video cards, it can no longer sell AMD-based ROG video cards, and be a GPP partner.

So after most of the companies started to roll out the new AMD brands because of GPP, Nvidia announced on their blog they are killing GPP. No word on if any of the companies will be compensated for the rebranding GPP forced them to do.

So, I've been in the "nvidia only" mindset for the past several months to a year, but I'm not liking what they're doing. Is Radeon still a worse option than Geforce, or can I consider an AMD card without worrying I'll pay as much. or more, for less performance/reliability?

Personally I will only buy an nVidia card.

They just work the best and it is my brand of choice. Give me another option that is NOT AMD and I will consider it. I am not an AMD fan video card wise.
I am not saying they are bad, they are NOT, I just have things I don't like and prefer nVidia. No I won't go into what I like and don't like. Honestly not worth arguing about, I like what I like.

If nVidia is now backing off then that is a good thing. Many companies do weird shit I don't like. Look at various weird ass things Apple has done over the years.

Look I am just a guy that wants the best card for my money, I can't be "making a stand" with this shit. i :) i

With all the thought I've done about my computer over the past several months, I disregarded AMD video to teh point that I don't even know which ones are 'good' and which aren't, and what their comparable Nvidia cards is. Thought I'd check to see if they'd improved their driver support, etc, enough that they warranted consideration.

In the mid and budget category, they are toe to toe with Nvidia. Driver support can be a little slower for new games, but that's about it. Multi GPU is still really only really doable with Nvida. AMD has no high-end products currently. The best Vega cards from them are about on par with a 1080. No 1080ti or Titan competitor.

Hmm. I was never going to afford anything over a 1070 in normal circumstances. Prices would have to come down and I'd have to catch a pricing error or a hell of a double-promotion to swing a 1070ti. I'd love one though.

New cards are coming out this year, prices are dropping and the demand for GPU's for crypto-mining is dropping tremendously. Wonder how far they'll fall this year, or if some of the gfx card makers will have a sale on GPP-branded cards to get rid of them.
