Not bad for $66. I'm ordering one just to hold Origin games.

Awesome deal. That's cheaper than a USB drive that size would be!

Just a heads-up, some of these are reportedly very bad. It seems you're gambling on whether you get a good one or a bad one - I mean, more so than usual.

Always check for a new BIOS on a new hardrive, HDD or SSD. Often that's why they go on sale - most folks don't know how to flash a BIOS. If you have to flash it to get the device to work because it shipped with bad, crappy firmware version A1.0, they have to sell it for less because less people know how to make it work. I've gotten great deals on good hardware by doing this. Just a word of advice from a hardware whore. Always flash while plugged into a UPS.

If you can get it to work, upgrading from HDD to SDD is quite the experience. I was going to upgrade my rig, but now with the SSD's I can wait another year or two. My boot times are reduced. My loading times are low (for games and for work). Working with files is instant - I don't have to wait for anything.

EDIT: OK I read the article. That's more than just a firmware update to fix.

Not jut that Larva but sometimes you cannot even update the damn FW. I JUST had this problem the other day. My boss got one from Pintech I think it was..don't quote me.., anyway we could not get the windows software nor the bootable Linux distro utility to see the damn thing to update the FW. We tried it connected directly to the internal SATA ports as well as external. Nothing..

Lexx I would NOT buy that FWIW. I did not read the article but from what Larva said etc.. sounds like a lemon. These things are hit and miss. You *MAY* get lucky but I would not risk it...

Just because something is an SSD does NOT make it good or reliable, there is a HUGE difference with these things. Same with SD cards or any type of nand memory.
You really get what you pay for here...

Well I would just say this: moving your OS and your most frequently used programs to an SSD is one of the most beneficial and noticeable upgrades you can make. It makes your computer so much more enjoyable to work with, making you wonder how you ever survived booting off of an old HDD. It might not increase your FPS for games but man it speeds everything else up! Much less waiting around for things to happen. It's still a worthy cause!

So if the deal posted above isn't that great there are plenty of other decent, affordable SSDs you can buy for only $15 to $20 more than the one he posted:
SSD's At Newegg
SSD's At Amazon

Just pick one you like and read the reviews! Some of these have rebates too making them almost as cheap as what Lexx posted.
